ABOUT US
We are a team of ambitious and creative students from the AGH University of Science and Technology from Cracow. Since 2012 we have specialized in design and construction of Formula Student racing cars. Constant investments in the technical background and improvements of workflow management methods result in the upgraded racing cars’ constructions and consequently better competition results and highly qualified engineering staff.
FORMULA STUDENT
The Formula Student series consists of competitions testing the preparation of the team and the capabilities of the car in various engineering aspects. The final result aggregates points scored in static competitions as well as in the most spectacular dynamic ones. Each team, however, must first pass a complex technical inspection to check the compliance of the car with the regulations and its safety and performance. Only after ensuring that the structure meets all rigorous standards the team is allowed to start driving.
STATIC EVENTS:
Cost & Manufacturing
The car should be made in a way that manages resources in the most economical way. In this competition, the judges check the compliance of the previously sent “Cost Report” with the actual state of affairs. The team members must justify the use of the materials and the costs incurred in the production process.
ENGINEERING DESIGN
It consists in presenting a car to the judges from the technical side. Innovative approach to design and execution is tested. The use of materials, modern technologies and ingenious engineering solutions is also evaluated.
Business Plan Presentation
Static competition that tests the managerial skills and economic discernment of team members. The team has to present a business plan using a Formula Student car. The presenters are required to have business awareness, market analysis and an unusual idea.
DYNAMIC EVENTS:
Acceleration
The competition is for the car to cover a distance of 75 metres as quickly as possible, accelerating from the starting line from 0 km/h. The best time achieved by the team during one of the 4 tests counts towards the classification. The key to taking the highest possible place in this discipline is to maximize the performance of the engine and car start as well as traction.
Autocross
In the discipline it is important to complete 1 lap from the start line to the finish line in the shortest possible time. The competition gives a cross-section of a car performance.
Skid-Pad
The driver of the car must complete 2 laps on the loops of the number “8” in the shortest possible time and cross the finish line. The competition aims to test the performance of the suspension systems and aerodynamics, while the car is subjected to relatively high lateral overload forces.
Trackdrive
It means for driverless cars what Endurance is for combustion and electric vehicles. The most demanding competition that tests the strength and quality of the structure, as well as its ability to achieve good results over a long distance.
Efficiency
For evaluation in this category, the judges assess the amount of fuel or electricity consumed by the car during the dynamic competition. The constructions that consume the least energy receive the most points.
Endurance
The most important of all competitions, both in terms of emotions, test for the car as well as the score. The race consists of 23 laps, with the first driver completing 11 laps and the second driver going all the way to the last finish line. The time of the race is the culmination of the Formula Student competition. The order of the start of the cars is determined in reverse to the results from the Autocross competition so that the fastest drivers are the last to drive. At the same time, there can be 5 cars on the track, which is an exception from the rest of the competition, where in the course of all other competitions, as well as the conditions of using the warm-up arena, only 1 car can drive. The track has a width that makes it impossible for 2 cars to drive side by side and overtake. This makes it necessary for drivers to be doubly cautious during the main race, and to efficiently control the situation on the track and its patency (due to damaged cars that cannot continue driving) requires high planning and coordination skills from the organizers.
